It had been a while since Shikamaru had enjoyed an afternoon this nice. He had gone over a bunch of old Shogi games, hence the board laying beside his head and opened book entitled "Master Shogi Matches". He was laying on a grassy hill not far from the school. It was a Saturday, so no classes, but his mother had been driving him insane so he had fled the house. Now, he was just relaxing... a bottle of tea at his side, enjoying a cigarette as he just watched the clouds float on by... (Feel free to annoy him with your presence)

Shikamaru blinks, looking over at Anko and nodding. "Yeah, I know. He gave this one to me. Mine was too beat up to use anymore, so." He shrugs, putting out his cigarette by grinding it into the dirt under the tree he was by.

Shikamaru shrugs with a sigh. "Asuma's good, that's for sure. He hasn't beaten me yet though. Once I learned the rules, the game just... kind of came naturally. The only person I've never beat... is my dad, actually." He looks up at the clouds again, smiling slightly.

Shikamaru shrugs. "Supposedly. It's just kind of always been that way... my dad and I are smart, but we lack motivation unless my mom's hounding on us. It's such a drag some days..."

He rolls his eyes. "Mendokusee... I'm not popular with girls and I'm glad of it. Having all that fawning, flirting, and fake giggling going on around you? I don't know how Sasuke deals with it."

*Has come to the hill to practice painting the scenery of the land. He's brought a small kit of watercolours and a sketchbook but was surprised to see someone else there.*

Hello there *smiles*

Shikamaru looks over blinking a moment. "Hey... Kimimaro-san, right?" He sighs, sitting up and looking out over the view. This place was pretty nice....

*He smiles wider, happy that Shikamaru remembers him* Yes that's me.

What are you doing here?~

Shikamaru shrugs. "Enjoying a day off, trying to hide from my shrew of a mother. You?" He watches Kimi, having nothing else to do at the moment except to keep dragging on his ciggie.

*comes over to fill his shrew requirment of the day* Kimi! Shikamaru! *sits down on shikamaru's lap because she knows it'll annoy him*

Shikamaru blinks, glaring at Temari. "Can I help you somehow?"

Nah. Just wanted to come say hi to my favorite boys in the world. *smirks at him* Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to go to the movies with me. There's a movie I wanna see, but I think you'd apreciate it as much as me, and movies are pretty dull to go to alone. Whatcha say, Nara?

Shikamaru blinks, shrugging. "I don't see why not. I'm not busy with anything, how about you, Kimimaro?" He looks to the other boy, waiting for a response.

*frowns and looks at Shika like he's stupid, she'd been asking him on a date*

-flops down next to him-
I still don't get what's so great about that game.

Shikamaru shrugs, taking another drag as he watches the clouds. "It's the mental challenge of it, the rush of your strategies being turned against your opponents and seeing it win, or the despair as you fail. The constant flow of give and take."

Why don't you show me instead?

Surely it can't be that difficult to teach the basics at least, Shikamaru-sensei~

Shikamaru twitches, raising an eyebrow at her as he nods slowly. "Alright... I suppose I can do that...." As he slowly sets up the board, he explains the names of the pieces, and how each of them moves.

-Ino inwardly smirks at his reaction but says nothing of it, listening attentively to his explanations. With the occasional question to interrupt him, of course-

So that's all there is to it?

"Concerning the basics, yes." He sighs. "Trust me, it's actually a lot harder to master once you have the basics." He sits, crossing his arms as he makes the first move, dragging on his cigarette.

-she's stretched out on the grass, making herself comfortable- Way to make me feel better about this.

-Ino makes her move, there's no real strategy behind it. She's not aiming to win. Not that she could-

Mm~ -her voice takes on that horribly sweet quality. No, she was not meaning to ask this all along why do you ask?- How was your night with Temari?

Shikamaru responds to the move, pausing to glare at her the instant the super-sweet showed up. She was after something, as usual. "Not that it's any of your business, but the evening was quite enjoyable. We watched tv and played video games until we both passed out, then I went home when I woke up."
